Extended lifespan related to calcium alpha-ketoglutarate
October 23, 2020
- The first non-drug related evidence of longer lifespan and increased healthspan
- Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) “promotes longer, healthier life”
A longevity company known as Ponce De Leon, Inc. has revealed the first peer-reviewed study that suggests a non-drug substance that has shown improvement in lifespans and in health spans.
This was done over a span of many years and was a controlled study. It was conducted by Buck Institute for Research on Aging and used aged mice as test subjects. The study found that calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) “promotes longer, healthier life associated with a decrease in levels of inflammatory cytokines. Strikingly, the reduction in frailty was more dramatic than the increase in lifespan.”. This led scientists to come to the conclusion that Ca-AKG compresses (or makes smaller) the period of morbidity (suffering from a disease or medical condition). It made the mice feel and seem younger!
This is the very first time in history that a substance that is not a drug has shown to dramatically extend healthspan – or make a subject healthier for longer – but also decrease morbidity – or suffering. If this proves to work the same way on humans, it could mean reducing the amount of time people suffer from age-related diseases and conditions, increase their health and the amount of time they are healthy, and also reduce the amount of money spent on healthcare drastically.
Researchers tracked two groups of mice beginning when they were 18 months old through the rest of their lives. One group was the control group – meaning they did not receive the Ca-AKG – and the other did receive the substance. Both were observed for 31 frailty markers (signs of weakness and frailty) and tested for signs of aging and inflammation in the body. What they found was that the mice in the group that received Ca-AKG had a 12% increase in lifespan and a 46% decrease in frailty. They also found that there was a 41% increase in healthspan.
What is important about this study is not only that the mice lived longer, but that their suffering was reduced by adding calcium alpha-ketoglutarate to the mice’s diet. It suggests that aging and suffering because of it are not inevitable, but can potentially be avoided – or at least put-off.
There were several important finds in this study including prolonged life, reduced frailty and suffering, reduced inflammation, and increased physical activity, all with the addition of calcium alpha-ketoglutarate. Yes, the study was conducted on animals, but humans share many molecular similarities when it comes to aging with mice. They also experience many of the same challenges associated with aging as mice do.
Scientists now believe that adding Ca-AKG to one’s diet can impact and enhance important elements of human aging and improve the quality of life in elderly people. This research led to the development by Ponce De Leon of a commercial product containing dietary supplements with the active ingredient being Ca-AKG. This is a ground-breaking discovery that can change the course of people’s lives for the better.
