Habits for longevity and how they tie into Myers-Briggs personality types

  • While there are many ways to improve longevity today, many of them revolve around eating healthy, exercising, and connecting with your loved ones
  • There are certain personalities that lean into different habits of longevity to improve overall wellbeing
  • Myers-Briggs personality types suggest that different habits of longevity resonate with different personality traits

For years, the key building blocks of longevity have always focused on the maintenance of stress levels, good sleep, eating well, and exercising.  Nevertheless, Myers-Briggs’s personality types suggest that certain habits of longevity are actually prevalent in certain personality traits naturally, and as follows:

ISFJ: Healthy Lifestyle Routines

Naturally, ISFJs are creatures of habit. They direct their energy towards the fundamental building blocks of health. They follow their routine to the latter—regardless of whether it involves having a cup of green tea every day, or going to bed early on the weekends.  For these personality types, health is not a fad, it’s a lifestyle. And it can only be maintained by adhering to small, everyday decisions.

ESFJ: Social Circles

ESFJs love to be the center of attention in their social circles thanks to their amazing people skills. In fact, research has shown that for ESFJs, the company they surround themselves with is vital for longevity. They won’t feel reinvigorated, balanced, or supported unless they have the right people around them.  Part of an ESFJ’s wellness regimen involves surrounding themselves with colleagues, mentors, and people that help them grow every day.

ISTJ: Self-Awareness

Well-known for their meticulous nature and willingness to get the job done, ISTJs rely on their awareness to ground them and make them more fine-tuned to their bodies. For them, ignoring fads is how they maintain longevity.  Instead of dieting, they seek to eat healthy meals, instead of going to the gym, they prefer to run or even walk on their own.  All in all, self-awareness is what matters most to them.

ESTJ: Shedding The Baggage

As tough-minded individuals, ESTJs prefer to streamline their lives. And one way they do this is by cutting out the extra luggage to promote longevity. This could be anything from cutting out sugar from their diet, to eliminating toxic friendships.  They prefer to be balanced and not focused on just one aspect of their lives. For them, too much of a good thing can hinder their mental awareness and destroy their peace of mind.

ESFP: Loves to Keep Things Moving

ESFPs are free-spirited and fun-loving people. They prefer to do what’s right to them at any given moment. This is their secret to longevity; spontaneity in life! However, to keep things moving, it’s necessary that they steer clear from slumps or bouts of laziness. They can do this by mixing up their movements to avoid boredom. For example, if they do yoga today, they may go for a zumba class tomorrow!

ISFP: Creative Energy

ISFPs exhibit themselves as the sensitive, oftentimes silent artists who derive expression from their artistic ways. For longevity, these individuals find solace in emotional release. They pursue creative endeavors that assist them to work through their feelings. It may be simple pursuits such as picking up photography, painting, or singing; but it’s vital to their wellbeing in the long haul. 

ESTP: Joy in Youthfulness

ESTPs feed off the adrenaline rush of trying new ventures. For them, attitude is everything. They focus on fun and meaningful interactions in simple things such as playing video games, storytelling, standup, and spontaneous meet and greets.  For them, the way you interact with the world is what will keep you alive.

ISTP: Soaking in Nature

ISTPs love their independence and focusing on their personal interests. As such, they require two main things for physical and mental health: nature and freedom. They feel comfortable outdoors and rely on working out to expend all their pent-up energy. ISTPs love to push themselves doing activities such as riding a bike, climbing on foot, and paddling on a lake. The closer they are to nature, the more rejuvenated they feel.

ENFP: Traveling the World

Of all personality types, ENFPs tend to enjoy other people’s company the most. Unfortunately, this desire to sample the world around them might force them into bad habits if they aren’t actively doing something or expanding themselves. Hence, the best way to counter this negative behavior is by moving to a new environment; especially through travel. This will get their body and moving as they steer towards a new direction. Breaking out of their environment helps them to stay healthy and motivated with life.

INFP: Focus on Joy

INFPs are the deep, mysterious dreamers who have earned the reputation of being naive and soft. Indeed, they are simple idealists who strive to see the good in others.  For these types of personalities, negative people are extremely toxic. Since they care so much about what others think or do, they thrive by spending time with close family and friends, having dinner, or traveling around the world. Whenever they’re feeling sad, they replace this energy with joy and gratitude to keep them going.

ENFJ: Cooking

The ENFJ is the driven and charismatic empath who adores loving just as much as they are loved.  These individuals can charm just about anyone; and they love spending time creating in the kitchen. Particularly, whipping up meals and recipes for their loved ones. To them, this is the ultimate act of self-care. They love the control they have in adding ingredients and flavors to particular dishes. Not only does it calm their body and mind, but spirits as well.  

INFJ: Spirituality

The INFJ is a wise and helpful individual who is always willing to listen to others’ problems.  Nevertheless, they are complex, reserved human beings who have an incredible intuition and can tell when someone or something is off. Indeed, these personalities are in tune with themselves and in touch with their spiritual side. Meditating, praying, and connecting with their spiritual essence provides a reason and purpose for them to stay healthy.

INTJ: Subtle Repetitive Habits

The INTJ is the insightful visionary who is always planning ahead. Interestingly, they merely don’t pursue wellness for the sake of wellness. Instead, they make subtle changes in their lives, well-aware that these changes could have long-term positive effects. They think about longevity in relation to the normal, everyday decisions that they make. It could be something as simple as politely declining an extra serving of dessert at a restaurant, or lifting weights because of the importance of endurance training on anti-aging.  For them, the little things count.

ENTJ: Valuing Time for Self-Care

The ENTJ is the creative and charismatic leader who has a desire for visionary change. Despite their tight work schedules, they allocate time to indulge in habits pertaining to self-care. This could be something as simple as spending time with your partner, or meal-prepping to avoid fast food at the office.  Self-care is framed like a goal that they have to achieve in their life. It is about being the very best.

INTP: Laughter is the Best Medicine

The INTPs are the intellectual, philosophical individuals who have a deep desire to be understood. Being the serious types, they love to work hard, read, and engage in philosophical conversations. However, longevity for them is achieved by laughing a lot and seeking out fun. Laughter is more than just a break from their linear lives, it’s how they stay young!

ENTP : Spontaneity

Lastly, the ENTPs are the excitable and bright inventors who love to test out new concepts and ideas. People are easily drawn to them thanks to their quick-wit and charm.  While spontaneous activities may seem counterproductive to longevity habits, they aren’t for the ENTP personality type. A day or two out of a week for fun, exercise, and self-care could prove vital and life changing. Indeed, setting aside time for themselves away from their obligations can greatly enhance their quality of life.
