New Supplement Reverses Major Signs of Aging- Clinical Trial Shows

October 9, 2022

  • A new supplement has shown promise in reversing the key indicators of aging.
  • Known as GlyNac, the supplement corrected oxidative stress and restored mitochondrial health among participants of the trial.
  •  This could have immense benefits in helping older populations live happier and healthier lives.

What if we could keep our older population fit and strong while warding off the key indicators of aging? Well, a new supplement named GlyNac could potentially unlock this possibility.

Recent human trials with GlyNac have shown immense promise in reversing the signs of aging such as cellular senescence and oxidative stress, among many other conditions.

During the 16-week-trial, researchers from Baylor College of Medicine analyzed the effects of GlyNac on 12 younger people and 24 older adults. The older participants that received the supplement acquired stronger muscles, lost weight, and had lower blood pressure.

They were also seen to exercise harder and walk much faster, which are key indicators of good health while aging. As for the placebo group, no immediate improvements were seen. The study therefore reinforces the belief in GlyNac’s ability to correct oxidative stress and restore mitochondrial health.

As we grow older, mitochondria (which generate most of the energy we need to fuel our cell’s biochemical reactions) become less efficient. Our body also takes damage from the accumulation of free radicals, which are toxic waste products that result in the breakdown of cells and DNA damage.

To counter this, our bodies naturally produce an antioxidant known as glutathione, but its levels reduce as we age. GlyNac supplements not only reverse mitochondrial decline, but also replenish this deficiency.

The supplement was also seen to have a notable reversing effect on other conditions such as mitophagy, endothelial dysfunction, cellular senescence, stem cell fatigue, and inflammation.

“Glycine and cysteine are building blocks to form glutathione, which also has health benefits. We believe that the improvements in this trial and in our previous studies are the result of the combined effects of glycine and NAC and glutathione, and we refer to this combination as the Power of 3,” noted Dr. Rajogopal Sekhar, one of the lead authors of the study.

Researchers now hope that trials such as these will help humans lead happier and healthier lives as they grow older and experience the onset of physical struggles. The findings of the study were published in the Journals of Gerontology A.
